An important key to healing is forgiveness. Forgiveness of others is the first step, holding unforgiveness in your heart maintains a negative tie with that person even if you are justified with your anger. Forgiving doesn’t mean forgetting or putting the people who have hurt you back in your life.
Releasing the Hurts
When we are holding a negative feeling in our hearts about someone, it actually does nothing to him or to her. However it does make it harder for you because you will continue to attract situations that will remind you of these people until you can release that energy. Releasing the hurts, grudges, and resentments unwinds all those cords that tie you to that person, allowing the love energy to flow into your life again.
Forgiveness of Self
The second and most important step is forgiveness of self. And we all make errors and mistakes; it is part of living in this world. Self-blaming, self-condemnation, self-criticism lowers our immune functioning and creates a vicious cycle where there is no way out, but the breakdown of the body. The most freeing statement anyone ever made in my life came from Dr. Jerry Epstein, a mistake is simply a mis-take, and it is simply an indication to make a correction. And here on the earth, we are allowed by Spirit to make as many mis-takes as we need.
We need to get out from underneath the burden of man-made standards of right and wrong, good, bad, importance and inferiority. We set up ideas of perfection for others and ourselves and when these ideals are not fulfilled we are abusive to others and ourselves. When we can admit our errors and mis-takes to ourselves we are creating a wonderful healing attitude towards ourselves. Forgiveness is the key which brings a peace that allows you to move on with life.
Admit Your Error
And if you have injured, or offended someone then confess that error to the injured party and ask for forgiveness. In ancient times, Philo of Alexandria, a Hellenistic Jewish, Biblical philosopher, clarified the idea of confessing errors to gain forgiveness. And the Catholic Church adopted this method of confession of the heart. If you feel that it not possible to confront the person because egos get in the way or perhaps the person has already passed, it is still possible to make a correction.
Creating a Sacred Space
You can create a sacred space within yourself by turning your attention inwardly, calling forth the protection and guidance of the Invisible Reality. And state your intention of correcting an error and asking for forgiveness. Then closing your eyes take a long slow exhalation and normal in breath, three times and see yourself sitting across from this person and speak from your heart. Keep it short, the imaginal process is more powerful when done in small doses. A spark is created and healing can and does happen in such a way. When finished see yourself hugging and hearts merging and open your eyes.
